🌞 Welcome to June!

Hello and welcome to a brand new month!

June marks the beginning of summer, a season full of energy, growth, and new opportunities. Whether you're wrapping up the first half of the year or gearing up for new adventures, now is a great time to reflect on progress, set fresh goals, and recharge. Stay inspired, stay motivated, and most importantly, take care of yourself and those around you. Here’s to a joyful and productive June!

May brought us another successful meeting! Thank you to all who came out!!! During May’s meeting we discussed Range Etiquette, Safety, & Range Gear. Most of our time and discussion was spent on Range Etiquette and safety which is awesome! It just shows me that our She-Shooter community wants to do everything they can to stay safe on any range they visit. We also had a few laughs watching one of our favorite videos from Colion Noir (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFxo4uCFWhY). If you haven’t seen this video, give it a watch and let us know how many of these you have seen at the range. I know Stephanie and I could add a few that aren’t seen in the video. And of course…don’t be like any of these offenders! If you ALWAYS remember the 4 universal safe gun handling rules, you will have a great range experience. Whenever you go to the range, you are a range safety officer…with great power, comes great responsibility.

What’s up next for June? I’m so glad you asked…join us Wednesday, June 18th at 6:00 pm as we look at Concealed Carry for Ladies. Carrying concealed is different for us ladies compared to men. Our bodies are different. Our clothing is different. The size and weight of the firearm may be different. Our confidence and experience may also be different. Let’s talk about practical options for carrying our firearms. Even with all of the options, there will be advantages and disadvantages. But I can assure you that you will find what is comfortable for you. Just like choosing a firearm, your purpose, personal preferences, and lifestyle will help you determine what works best for you. Many times we don’t know if we like a specific carry option until we’ve bought and tried it. If we end up not liking it, it ends up in a drawer or a bin…lost forever. Let’s bring those misfit rigs out of the darkness and have a holster swap! If you have any Pew Pouches that you think may be what someone is looking for, bring it to the meeting. As always, Stephanie and I look forward to seeing you!!!

Remember to use your She-Shooter coupons (don’t have one, come to a meeting) and remember EVERY Wednesday, from open to close, is EMPOWERED WOMEN WEDNESDAYS at FreeState Gun Range! Ladies shoot for half price, $5.00 gets you unlimited firearm rentals, one free target, and no charge for eye/ear protection rental!! Work on those skills and save money…it doesn’t get much better than that!!!

Monthly Drills:

Tap/Rack Drill: You will need snap caps for this drill. Have someone else load your magazine with a mix of live rounds and snap caps. Load and make ready. Begin shooting maintaining all fundamentals. Surprise…you get a click and no bang. Tap, rack, get back on target, and continue shooting. Maintain trigger finger discipline when clearing your “malfunction”. Do as many times as you like at any distance.

Extend, Touch, Press Drill: You will need to place your target at 4-7 yards. Start at 4 if you’d like and then work up to 7 or farther. Load 5 rounds to start. Get in a good stance and get a proper grip. You will start at high compressed ready. Extend arms parallel to line of sight, both eyes open. Once on target, touch your trigger. Next, press trigger firing 1 round. Bring back to high compressed ready. Repeat for a total of 5 reps. The next set of reps you will fire 2 rounds at press (total of 10 rounds). For the final set of reps you will fire 3 rounds at press (total of 15 rounds). This drill will build your confidence, improve defensive accuracy, improve recoil control, and improve shooting speed. See video link for a demonstration https://youtu.be/yNQR65n9hVo?si=rgGU85NrllFiNzes

Weak Hand Pick Up: 2 rounds at different distances using any silhouette target placing all rounds center mass.

*** Place firearm on the bench in front of you with the muzzle pointed downrange. Place strong/dominant hand behind your back.

When ready, pick up firearm using weak hand only. Get sights on target and fire 2 shots. Repeat as much as you want.
