There is a difference.

Hello Everyone,

I found out today that all guns do not handle the same, even though they are roughly the same size and the same caliber. As you know I have a Canik, but I wanted to shoot Josh’s FN. Both of these guns are 9mm. I asked him to bring it to the range for me to shoot. Josh, who is an instructor at Freestate, went out with me to fire the FN. He set the target to 7 yards, and I began firing the gun. I have gotten pretty good at 12 yards with my gun, so you will understand my disappointment when I did not hit the center of the target one time. Not only did I not hit the center, but I wasn’t even close!! And as far as grouping goes, there wasn’t any.

Apparently, Josh could see that I was a bit distraught and brought my gun to me. I loaded my magazine and fired. To my amazement, I was hitting the center and my grouping was spot on.

The differences in the guns are: a slight weight variance, different sights, the Canik has a trigger safety and the FN has an articulated (hinged) trigger. After going over the differences with Josh and understanding the trigger differences, I was able to adjust my stance and grip relating to the FN. My aim greatly improved.
