Krav Maga

Last night I went to Watchdog Krav Maga.  For those of you that came to the Meet & Greet, they were the martial arts school that talked with us.   After meeting Brian and Paula at the M&G I was very excited to attend one of their classes.

Years ago I was a gym rat but that was a very long time ago.  With that said, I knew that it might be a hard class for me. Like most warm-ups, Brian had us jog first, but he made it fun.  He doesn’t like it when you run in a circle, so we ran randomly around the room.  After the warm up, the class began.  We were all paired with a partner. I have taken Karate classes before, but Krav Maga is nothing like it.

Class started with Brian asking what you would do it someone had your head pressed against the hood of a car.  My first thought was that I would shoot them…..but I don’t have a Wear and Carry…..( L  I need to get one). He taught us how to use the backward and up hammer strike against our assailant.   While we practiced these moves with our partners, Brain walked the room and critiqued each group on our skills.  Once we were proficient with this, we began a vulnerable point’s drill.

This was like a game of tag, but we were ALL it.  If another person was able to touch your shoulder or knee you had to do a Burpee or a Jump Squat (I really hate Burpees).  This drill was so much fun!!!  After that drill we got to pull each other’s hair, no really, we did.

Brian taught us what to do if someone tries to pull you down with your hair.  Every girl should know how to do this!!!  The most important step is to focus on staying on your feet. When the assailant uses your hair to pull your forwards or to the side the first thing you do is move one of your feet forward,  pointing in the direction of the assailant. This will give you the balance that you need. As you move your foot forward, take your arm closest to the person and strike their leg while you strike their balls, then their throat, then push them back with the other hand followed by a kick to their chest.  When that’s done you take a defensive stance and move around making sure you are safe.  That’s a lot, right!  Again, Brian critiqued us again.

Brian is a very positive instructor. The class taught me moves that I would never have thought of and the drills really helped in muscle memory.  I will be practicing these drills daily.  I cannot wait for my next class!
